I cannot believe I’m 21 years old. Where did the time go?!! I’ve had a countdown on my phone for the longest time waiting for this. I wanted to be 21 so bad. Not just because I could drink (I mean c’mon I can barely handle Rosé), but because I could finally go out with my friends!!! Almost all of my friends are older than me and when they would be out at bars (literally down the street from my apartment), I could never go. This was all obviously pre-COVID. You will not catch me at a bar anytime soon. Here in Kentucky they actually just closed bars again, which I think is a good idea and will hopefully decrease the spread. Anyway, on to less depressing topics- what I did for my bday!!!
I got up bright and early at 6:30am, did my morning routine, and got ready for my 21k. Being honest, I really wanted to do 21 miles. But, I have been dancing a lot more and not training as much. Dancing and running don’t really go hand in hand, so my hips were telling me to cool it. I felt kind of sad because I wanted to do 21 miles so bad. Soooooooo bad. But, the 21k was fun and my hips feel fine. After the run, I of course had to go get my free bday drink at Starbucks (a cold brew with dark cocoa almond milk foam thank youuuu) and then ate so many pancakes and so much bacon!
That afternoon my mom took me for a drive to see the first house I lived in, my first school, my second house, my first dance studio- it was literally a trip down memory lane. The funny thing about it was that everything seemed so big when I was little. My best friend lived across the street from us and I remember thinking the distance between our houses was SO FAR. And they are literally across the street. It was a really nice afternoon- plus my legs were jello from the run and I literally couldn’t do anything else. We stopped at one store, and keep in mind I was not dressed to be out in public (sweatpants and my moms flip flops), and thank god I didn’t see anyone I knew.
We did a champagne toast at 5pm, and chatted with family on the phone before dinner. My dad told me he had to go run an errand and he walked back in the door with the biggest chocolate cake I have ever seen in my life. AND a container with bourbon caramel sauce to drizzle over the top. Insane. We ordered dinner from Malone’s, one of my favorite restaurants in KY. I ordered chicken fingers, because I’m 21 going on 12, and they are seriously the best chicken fingers I have ever had in my entire life. And I’ve had a lot.
We opened presents and cards, and drank rosé while eating cake. And then I was in bed by 10pm! HAHA I’m old! Anyway, I want to say thank you to everyone who reached out and said happy birthday, and took the time out of their day to call, or find a photo of us and post it. I really appreciate it and it made me feel very special and loved. I didn’t have anything planned for my 21st pre- COVID so I’m not upset about it at all! I was happy to be able to stay home and hang with my family. Unfortunately, there are no crazy 21st bday stories to tell you all, maybe I’ll have to do something really crazy for my 22nd. Anyway, cheers to 21!
