Chris is a fantastic content creator, an amazing performer, and one of my closest friends! If it weren’t for him, I don’t think I would have survived the past year. He’s someone that I really look up to, and am always inspired by. He’s constantly putting himself out there and stepping out of his comfort zone- which we all need to do more of! Read our chat below all about growing your following, TikTok, YouTube, and confidence. You can follow Chris on Instagram here, and subscribe to his YouTube channel here. Enjoy!
Tell us a little bit about the content you create!
So I honestly do as much as I can. I am active and post daily on Instagram and TikTok, and I have a Youtube channel I post to once a week. My instagram focuses mainly on fashion and lifestyle. Lifestyle meaning what I do with my life, especially regarding food, drinks, health, and fitness. My feed posts are mostly fashion, I love photoshoots in crazy outfits, while my reels are where I dive into food/beverage, etc.. My IG stories are a blend of both. On Tiktok I do any and every trend I can get my hands on and my content tends to change topics every few months. Right now I do a lot of trying drive thru orders. YouTube is where I get to just be me and vlog about random things. I love it all.
You are posting new content all the time, what keeps you motivated to do so?
My end goal is what keeps me motivated. I want FAME. I’m not much of a short term goal person, I dream big and I don’t stop until it comes true. So when I started social media and began to grow, I knew I had to keep working and working and working. And that is where I am at. I’m not there yet, so I am still motivated to keep going.
How do you come up with new ideas for each post?
For Instagram, I have a vision of what I want it to be based on whatever outfit I pick or whatever my setting is, but the whole idea doesnt come together until after I’m done and I can take it all in and reflect. I don’t like planning it out ahead of time as much as I like having inspiration and seeing what comes of it. It’s hard to always have an idea when you post so much content, so I just start with something small and simple and let it grow into something whole. For TikTok and YouTube, I mainly just take a look at what is trending and put my own twist on it. I’m a little more basic when it comes to my ideas for those, but like I said, I have to make everything my own.
You’ve seen a lot of growth in your Instagram followers over the past couple of months, is there a specific formula for posts/stories that you’ve found works?
Yes and no. Growth on Instagram right now is mainly through reels. So consistently posting interesting content to reels is the easiest way to grow. That is the formula. But, what I’ve found is that you can maintain those reels followers by being active. I post 3 times a week to my feed, and at least 3-4 stories a day to keep those new followers interested. They say 3 feed posts, 3 reels, 10 stories, and at least 1 IGTV a week, but I don’t necessarily do all that.
Advice for anyone wanting to grow their following?
The key to ANY social media is consistency. Consistency in your posting schedule, and consistency in your type of content and “niche.” Also, for instagram use reels. Everytime Instagram or any other app does something new, use it. They promore that stuff. Overall, find a niche and a voice, post regularly, and stick with it.
I’ve known you for a while, and you are one of the most unapologetic people I know. How do you do it?
I think that is just the way I was raised to be. My Mom is the same. I learned at an early age that not everyone is going to like you, but if you are 100% yourself and don’t apologize for it, you’ll attract the right people for you. YOUR VIBE ATTRACTS YOUR TRIBE. So being you, authentically is going to bring the right people into your life. I’ve worked so hard to become who I am today, and I love who I am, so I’d be doing a disservice to myself and others if I didn’t show it off. I think everyone should feel that way about themselves. We are all amazing!
What was the process like of starting a YouTube channel? Is there anything you would have done differently?
Starting off is easy. I feel like I just came up with what I wanted to do and started doing it. I drew inspiration from some YouTubers I liked and got going, I just wanted to vlog and have fun and show people my life. But, YouTube is interesting because it’s so hard to break into and grow it into something big. Typically, you can’t just post a youtube video and go viral like you can on TikTok. It doesn’t happen overnight. So there isn’t anything I would have done differently. YouTube is a journey, so I’m growing as I go.
What app do you use to edit your photos?
Lightroom! I don’t do any editing other than a simple preset. Super easy and it makes for a very consistent feed. I recommend searching Etsy for the preset that fits you best.
Who is your biggest inspiration?
In life, my biggest inspiration is my family. In a different way than usual though. They don’t do what I do, so it’s not like I follow in their path’s or anything, but they believe in me and cheer for me in everything I do. That is what inspires me more than anything. I want to make them proud. As far as public figures, I am inspired by so many: The Kardashians for the ability to build a brand, Ariana Grande for her vocals, Harry Styles for fashion, Joan River’s sense of humor, and Cardi B for her boldness. Recently, the Wendy Williams documentary/movie really inspired me too.
What’s next for you!
You’ll have to follow my socials to see 😉 @salvaggio_chris. Totally kidding….. or am i?
No, but for real, I am going to keep doing what I’m doing. Working hard on social media to grow and have a positive influence on people. I’ll be back in NYC soon, and hopefully auditioning again. I always say the sky’s the limit, so ANYTHING could come next. Not sure when, but someday soon I’ll take over for Ellen and then eventually run for President. I’m 100% serious. Stay tuned!
